How SWP is Calculated
The SWP calculator simulates your investment month by month, growing your balance at the expected rate of return and deducting your fixed withdrawal amount each month.
SWP Balance Formula
Bm = Bm-1 × (1 + R/12) − W
Investment
₹10,00,000.00
Monthly Withdrawal (W)
₹10,000.00
Annual Return (R)
8%
Tenure
10 Years
Final Balance
₹3,90,179.88
Where: Bm is the balance at the end of month m, R is the expected annual rate of return, and W is your fixed monthly withdrawal. Each month, interest is added to the balance first, and the withdrawal is then deducted. This repeats every month across your chosen tenure.
SWP Calculation Example
See how your corpus changes over time using the values you've entered.
Worked Example
Suppose you invest ₹10,00,000.00 and withdraw ₹10,000.00 every month, while your remaining balance grows at an expected 8% per year, over a period of 10 years.
Over this period, you would withdraw a total of ₹12,00,000.00.
Based on these values, your remaining balance at the end of the tenure would be approximately ₹3,90,179.88.
A few things worth knowing about SWP:
If your withdrawal rate is lower than your expected rate of return, your corpus can last indefinitely, or even grow.
If your withdrawal rate is higher than your returns, your corpus will gradually deplete, potentially before your chosen tenure ends.
Actual mutual fund returns fluctuate with the market, so treat this as an estimate rather than a guarantee.
